GLOBAL WARMING

Purpose of the blog

The purpose of this blog is to talk about Global Warming and its problems. This blog will contain different topics about the issue. First I will review the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” presented by Al Gore. Then I will talk about what Global Warming is and explain some of the evidence. Next I will write about the causes of Global Warming and why it is happening. My blog will also contain a small presentation which will contain some pictures and explain what is happening. I will also write about the effects of the global warming on animals, children and city locations. In addition there will be an explanation about what we can do here in the UAE to prevent these kinds of things and what the government should do to help. Later on I will examine head lines from different News Papers from the UAE and I will discuss them. Finally I will write a small summary about the whole project.

"An Inconvenient Truth"

“An Inconvenient Truth” is a film in which Al Gore talks about Global Warming. According to Gore releasing Carbon Dioxide adds to atmospheric. When sunlight comes to the earth it can’t escape the carbons which make the earth hotter and hotter. Gore also talks about his trip to the North Pole and about the thickness of the ice there. He also mentions that a large percentage of fresh water is locked away in the ice.Global Warming will cause lots of problems. These problems are increasing temperatures, increase evaporation from seas, and an increase in strong winds when they travel over warmer water. He also explains about the melting of the ice caps which is happening faster than what scientists expected. This will increase the amount of water. He gives an example of this saying that if big chunks of ice melt, they will raise the sea level by 20 feet above land level.Actually I like this kind of movie because it tells us about the dangers and what may happen in the future. Adding to that scientists agree with this movie and what Gore mentions in it. In fact I like this movie because it shows us about the dangerous of Global Warming and it also gives us some statistics and percentages about what will happen in the future. I hope that anyone who has the power, or can affect the world’s decisions, will do something to reduce Global Warming’s effects.

Definition of the Global Warming

Global Warming can be defined as the increasing of the earth’s temperature. It happens due to increasing greenhouse gasses which contain water vapor, CO2 and methane. All these gasses have advantages for the earth. With out them the temperature of the earth would be between 15C to 19C below zero. With the development of industry and transportations the world started to depend on oil and natural gasses. The over use of fuel and natural gas creates more greenhouse gas than the earth can handle which then lets the earth’s temperature increase, which is what is happening these days. All these causes have happened very quickly and also create lots of negative effects which we can see now.

Effects of Global Warming

Global Warming has started to make lots of effects in the world. One of these effects is increasing water temperature in the world’s seas. Another effect is the decrease of ice bergs at both poles by 14% between 1978 and 1989. This has caused a decrease in the number of fish which live in cold water by 2% in the last 40 years. It has been also noticed that ice is melting in Greenland which has caused 50 billion tones of ice to melt every year.In addition, there has been decrease of houses prices which are located near to beach. Some countries such as the Maldives, which is totally surrounded by water, may sink in the future due to Global Warming. Here in the U.A.E temperatures are increasing from summer to summer and sometimes it reaches up to 50C or more. Global Warming has started to effect animals as well. Birds are laying eggs earlier than usual and also plants are starting to flower earlier than usual.
